can you carry perfume on airplane?

Yes, you can carry perfume on an airplane, but there are specific regulations in place to ensure passenger safety.

These rules primarily concern the amount and packaging of your perfume.

Perfume in Carry-On Luggage

If you want to bring your favorite scent with you in your carry-on bag, you must adhere to the 3.4 Ounce Limit: Each perfume container must hold 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less.

  • Clear Quart-Sized Bag: All liquids, gels, and aerosols, including perfume, must be placed in a single, clear, quart-sized, resealable bag.
  • One Bag Per Passenger: Each passenger is allowed only one of these quart-sized bags.

It's important to note that even if you have a larger perfume bottle, you can still bring it in your carry-on if you decant the allowed amount into a smaller, TSA-compliant container.

Perfume in Checked Luggage

You have more flexibility when packing perfume in your checked luggage. However, there are still some restrictions:

  • Container Size: Each perfume container must not exceed 0.5 kg (18 ounces) or 500 ml (17 fluid ounces).
  • Total Quantity: The total amount of liquids, gels, and aerosols per person cannot exceed 2 kg (70 ounces) or 2 liters (68 fluid ounces).

While these limits are less strict than those for carry-on luggage, it's crucial to pack your perfume securely to prevent breakage. Consider using bubble wrap or placing it in a protective case.

Tips for Traveling with Perfume

  • Buy Travel-Sized Bottles: Many perfume brands offer travel-sized options that perfectly fit the 3-1-1 rule.
  • Decant Your Perfume: If you prefer to use your favorite fragrance, transfer a small amount into a TSA-approved container.
  • Pack Carefully: Whether in your carry-on or checked luggage, pack your perfume securely to prevent leaks or spills.
  • Consider Duty-Free Purchases: You can buy perfume at duty-free shops after security checkpoints. These purchases are generally exempt from the 3-1-1 rule.

By following these guidelines, you can confidently bring your favorite perfume on your next flight. Remember to check the latest TSA regulations before your trip, as rules can change.
